Hong Kong-based actress Natalie Ng has dismissed claims that her ex-husband, financial expert David Chan, abandoned her during her battle with cancer.

The allegations arose earlier in June after the 51-year-old revealed that she had divorced Chan, whom she had been married to since 2011.

In a recent interview on a Hong Kong radio programme, Ng made it clear that her marriage had already been troubled long before her breast cancer diagnosis in 2022.

Her health deteriorated earlier in March when the cancer cells spread to her coccyx (tailbone), advancing to Stage Four.

However, her cancer index has since returned to normal after undergoing treatment.

"Relationship problems don't happen overnight, and it's never just one person's fault," she said.

The actress explained that she chose to make the divorce public as she didn't want to hide anything, adding that the split was amicable and that she and Chan remain on good terms.

Ng and Chan, who met while studying in the United States, share two daughters – aged eight and 11.

"We have always been good friends. Even if we can't be lovers, being friends is fine.

"I want to clear his name. He may not have been the best partner, but he's certainly a good father," she said.
