It's been nearly five years since Hong Kong actress Grace Wong tied the knot with businessman Daniel Chang. Before that, the two maintained a long distance relationship for 12 years!
Wong, best known for her work in 2016 TVB drama A Fist Within Four Walls, tells StarLifestyle exclusively the key to their long-lasting relationship.
"I think the secret to a happy marriage is communication. You have to respect and love each other, listen and share your thoughts and feelings to each other.
"I think marriage is about finding that partner and best friend for life. If you cannot even communicate your innermost thoughts and feelings to your other half, that marriage would be very difficult."
Wong currently stars in the comedy-mystery series The Forgotten Day, which sees her character Freeya going missing, leading to her husband embarking on a frantic search for her.
"With Freeya and her husband, there was a huge lack of communication. And when she went missing, that's when her husband realised how much he loves her and misses her. But it shouldn't take someone going missing for you to learn how to appreciate them," she says with a laugh.
As her character is missing for most of the series, Wong doesn't get much screen time compared to the rest of the cast.
The actress reflects there is more to acting than just getting the most screen time: "I wasn't concerned about how much screen time I had compared to others.
"I feel there are other more important aspects than screen time such as the importance of the role or if it was a challenging or interesting character that I really wanted to play."
Recently, the 34-year-old experimented with playing a new role altogether – a singer. She self-financed and released her first single, dance track Casada, under the stage name G. Racie last July.
She speaks about what inspired her to make the leap of faith: "Music was always my first love and my dream. What inspired me to make this move at this stage of my career was something my husband said.
"My husband told me, 'when you first went into the industry, you didn't have any money, connections and fame. Now that you have a bit of everything – a little bit of money saved up, a bit of fame and connections now – why would you give up on your music dreams now when you fought so hard when you had nothing back then?'"
The Forgotten Day is available on Astro Go.
