News that 66-year-old actor Liu Kai-chi might be battling stomach cancer has been making its rounds among the Hong Kong media.
The actor was apparently diagnosed with stomach cancer last year but decided to keep the news to himself so as to not worry anyone.
When Oriental Daily News reached out to the actor for a response, he neither confirmed nor denied it.
"Thank you for your concern. I'm old now. My body is breaking down. My body is indeed unwell," he said.
Pressed if his stomach cancer diagnosis is true, he replied: "Please understand that I need a peaceful environment to rest and recuperate. I know everyone is concerned.
"But if there are too many questions, though they may be out of kindness, it can also be a type of burden. I hope everyone understands."
Liu has starred in a myriad of films and TV dramas throughout his 40-year showbiz career and picked up two Hong Kong Film awards acting trophies along the way.
He is married to former TVB actress Money Chan Man-yee. They have three sons together. Their youngest son died of leukemia in 2006 after a three-year battle.
