Angpows are only given to unmarried individuals during Chinese New Year. That's why kids are always so excited about this time of the year!

But for those who are well into their adulthood and remain unmarried, they may feel a little shy in continuing to accept the red packet.

Ex-TVB actress Monica Chan doesn't see it that way.

The 54-year-old excitedly shared about her angpow earnings this year on a Feb 21 Weibo post (translation via 8 Days), and channelling them to a good cause.

“Didn't go visiting because of the pandemic, (resulting in) a record-breaking low! This year, I only received nine big angpows from my family and close friends, (and) as always, all my angpows will be donated to charity!"

She adds: "Thank you to all the kind elders who gave me an angpow, as long as I’m unmarried, I’ll still continue to take angpows the next year.”

The 1989 Miss Hong Kong winner also touched on her decision to remain single.

"It's not that the single life chose me, rather, I choose to remain single. Everyone, you don’t need to look at me with pity in your eyes.”
