Hong Kong actor Ha Yu has opened up about his relationship with his children, admitting that he doesn't consider himself a successful father.

In a recent interview with Hong Kong media, the 83-year-old revealed that he isn't particularly close to his children – actor Dixon Wong, 37, another 34-year-old son and a 27-year-old daughter.

Although they rarely argue and can chat normally, Ha Yu – whose real name is Wong Sing – said he has always felt as if there were an invisible wall between them.

Even when he and Dixon recently worked together on the drama Under The Rainbow, the father and son rarely spoke to each other on set.

Ha Yu acknowledged that spending little time with his children while they were growing up affected their bond, and they now rarely confide in him about their innermost feelings.

Ha Yu married in 1988 and remained in Hong Kong at the peak of his career while his wife raised their children overseas.

Looking back, the Moonlight Resonance (2008) star said he feels envious whenever he sees other fathers enjoying close relationships with their children.

However, he added that if he could make the choice all over again, he would still work hard to earn money and provide for his wife and children.

Ha Yu also opened up about his thoughts on life and death, saying he isn't afraid of the latter.

"I'm not afraid of dying. I'm only afraid of not dying," he said.

He explained that his biggest concern is becoming seriously ill in the future and having to depend heavily on others.

As for how he maintains his health, Ha Yu said he has "absolutely no secrets", adding that he doesn't restrict his diet and eats whatever he likes.
