Legendary Malay and Thai flavours in Langkawi buffet


Nostalgia Mahsuri buffet is available until April 7 at Langkawi Kitchen, The Ritz-Carlton in Langkawi.

EMBARK on a journey of discovery with the “Nostalgia Mahsuri” buffet inspired by the legendary tale of Mahsuri.

Langkawi Kitchen at The Ritz-Carlton in Langkawi, Kedah, invites guests to the dinner that draws inspiration from the island’s famous legend, Mahsuri who is said to have lived in the 17th century and have come from Siam.

The “Nostalgia Mahsuri” buffet seeks to capture the essence of Mahsuri’s story through its diverse offerings from her native as well as adopted lands.

The menu is infused with the bold flavors of Malay and Thai cuisines.

The resort’s restaurant has panoramic views of the 10-million-year-old rainforest.

Admire the stunning scenery while tucking into dishes such as Urap Pegaga Isi Kepah, a refreshing salad featuring pegaga (Asian pennywort) leaves, local clams, coconut floss and spices.

Kerabu Bronok Langkawi is an aromatic salad made with local bronok, a species of sea cucumber.

The bronok is sliced and tossed in a tangy and spicy dressing.

Miang Kham & Ulam-Ulaman Nibong Garden is a platter of Thai and Malay herbs from the in-house garden, served with a sweet and savoury dipping sauce.

Kambing Golek Bakar Mahsuri is whole lamb marinated with local spices and slow roasted under charcoal, served with a selection of sauces to further enhance the meat.

Andaman Lautan Station offers two soups, namely tom yum and kengsom bursting with spices and seafood.

Udang Galah Kari Merah features locally caught fresh tiger prawns cooked in an aromatic curry and lemongrass for a light, spicy kick.

Kerutup Ayam Kampung is a popular dish from Kelantan made with local free-range chicken cooked until tender with a mixture of spices and coconut milk.

Nasi Lemuni is a northern dish featuring fragrant black-flecked rice infused with lemuni leaves.

Since ancient times, the lemuni leaf has been treasured for its purported medicinal benefits, especially for women undergoing confinement.

“Nostalgia Mahsuri” is available at Langkawi Kitchen from Thursday to Sunday until April 7, from 6.30pm to 10.3pm.

It is priced at RM168nett per adult and RM89nett per child.
