Authentic Thai flavours

Sriprathum showing the Thai afternoon tea set served at The Botanist Lounge and Bar from 3pm to 5pm daily

A CHEF who has created fine Thai dishes at a luxury hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, is in Kuala Lumpur to thrill local tastebuds.

Rosarin Sriprathum and her culinary team from The Sukhothai Bangkok are serving guests at Thyme at Parkroyal Collection Kuala Lumpur until Sunday.

They are preparing specially curated lunch sets, afternoon tea and buffet dinners.

The visiting chef, fondly known as Chef Rin, said diners should take the opportunity to savour authentic Thai food just as it is served in Bangkok.

“Many people from all over the world like Thai cuisine.

“However, many chefs do not follow the original recipes and will tweak them to suit diners.

“I don’t do that. Wherever I go, I prepare the food with the same methods used by my mother and grandmother.

“People should know what the original dish tastes like and decide if they like it,” said Sriprathum.

“A Canadian couple who had lunch here said they enjoyed my food. So I am very pleased.

“I usually choose dishes that will suit the local palate,” she added.

From the many offerings, the “Bangkok Night” buffet dinner seems to be most popular.

There are two menus on rotation. One menu starts with Som Tom Thai, a green mango salad that teases the tastebuds with sweet, spicy, salty and sour flavours.

There is also the Larb Nuen, the spicy minced beef salad.

For mains, guests can sample Thod Mum Goong (deep-fried prawn cake), Gai Yang (grilled chicken), Panang Ped (Duck Confit Panang Curry), Pla Ka Pong Tord Krateam (crispy seabass fillet) and Phad Thai Poo Nime (crispy soft-shelled crab with wok-fried noodles) among others.

Steamed plain rice is served alongside Tom Kha Gai, a creamy and mildly spicy Thai chicken soup with mushrooms and coconut milk.

End the meal with classic desserts such as Khao Niew Mamuang (mango with sweet sticky rice) and Thapthim Krop (water chestnut dumplings with jackfruit in coconut syrup).

A lunch set is available daily from noon to 2.30pm at RM60nett per person.

Tonight is the last night to experience the “Bangkok Night” buffet dinner that will be available from 6.30pm to 10.30pm at RM178nett per person.

For RM450nett per person, guests can indulge in an exclusive dinner with wine pairing.

A seafood buffet dinner will be available tomorrow and on June 17 from 6.30pm to 10.30pm at RM238nett per person.

The Thai afternoon tea set is served at The Botanist Lounge and Bar from 3pm to 5pm daily at RM198 per person.
