PETALING JAYA: Teenage swimmer Mohd Dhuha Zulfikry, who won six gold medals at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in August, made a smashing World Cup debut in Shanghai, China by erasing the oldest national record in short course swimming.

The 16-year-old smashed Jeffrey Ong’s 35-year-old national mark in the 1,500m freestyle.

He clocked 14:59.80s in the final to just miss out on the World Cup podium but managed to better Jeffrey's time of 15:27.05s.

He was only 5.33s off the bronze medal-winning time of 14:54.47s set by Estonia's Kregor Zirk.

American Charlie Clark took gold with 14:40.57s with Benjamin Goedamans taking silver for Australia with 14:48.46s.
