Wee Wern and Rachel storm into semi-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: Top two seeds Low Wee Wern and Rachel Arnold will face their first real tests in the SRAM PSA 1 after reaching the semi-finals in superb fashion.

Top seed Wee Wern defeated Aika Azman 11-3,11-2,11-3 in just 23 minutes in the women’s quarter-finals at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil to set up a meeting against fourth seed Ooi Kah Yan.

In the other last eight battle, second seed Rachel Arnold blew away fifth seed Chan Yiwen 11-5,11-7,11-3 in just 16 minutes.

She faces third seed Aifa Azman for a place in the final.

Rachel is just happy to play the sport again.

“I’m quite happy with my performance so far. It’s great being able to compete again, ” said Rachel, who had not played in any official tournament since February last year.

“I hope to keep the momentum going and focus on my game plan against Aifa next.”

In the men’s event, Elvinn Keo stole the show when he upset fourth seed Darren Rahul Pragasam 5-11,11-7,2-11,11-4,11-7 to advance to the semi-finals.

The seventh seed has an uphill task as he will take on second seed Mohd Syafiq Mohd Kamal next.

The other semi-final will be between top seed Ivan Yuen and Addeen Idrakie and expect the match to go down to the wire.

Men: Ivan Yuen bt Siow Yee Xian 11-8,11-5,11-8; Addeen Idrakie bt Ong Sai Hung 11-6,11-8,11-4; Elvinn Keo bt Darren Rahul Pragasam 5-11,11-7,2-11,11-4,11-7; Mohd Syafiq Mohd Kamal bt Adam Agan Aziz 11-2,11-7,11-2.

Women: Low Wee Wern bt Aika Azman 11-3,11-2,11-3; Ooi Kah Yan bt Yee Xin Ying 11-7,9-11,11-3,8-11,11-9; Aifa Azman bt Noor Ainaa Amani Ampandi 11-5,11-3,11-3; Rachel Arnold bt Chan Yiwen 11-5,11-7,11-3.
