Sivasangari through to third round of British Open

PETALING JAYA: National squash ace S. Sivasangari advanced to the British Open third round after defeating home player Lucy Turmel on Monday (June 1).

World No. 5 Sivasangari had to fight her way back from losing the opening game to the world No. 30, but secured the 10-12, 11-2, 11-8, 11-9 win in 46 minutes in Birmingham.

Sivasangari also maintained her winning run against Turmel, having won all three of their previous matches, including at the Karachi Open in January.

Fifth seed Sivasangari will face another home player in Georgina Kennedy for a spot in the quarter-finals.

Eighth seed Kennedy beat Egypt’s Malak Khafagy in straight games in the second round.

The English player has the upper hand against Sivasangari, having won four of their five previous encounters, with the last three coming consecutively.
