Sivasangari's US Open run ends with q-final loss to world champ

PETALING JAYA: National squash player S. Sivasangari’s US Open campaign came to an end after she could not get past Egypt’s Amina Orfi in the quarter-finals on Wednesday (Nov 4).

The world No. 4 was denied a semi-final spot at the platinum-level tournament, going down 8-11, 1-11, 8-11 in 43 minutes to world No. 1 Orfi at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia.

It was Sivasangari’s ninth defeat in 12 meetings to world champion Orfi.

Nineteen-year-old Orfi, who has won this year’s London Classic, Qatar Classic, and Egyptian Open, will face compatriot and world No. 3 Nour El Sherbini in the semi-finals.

Sivasangari, who won the Silicon Valley Open last month, will now prepare for the gold-level China Open in Shanghai from Nov 17-22.
