Sangari cruises past compatriot Aifa in US Open first round

PETALING JAYA: National squash ace S. Sivasangari cruised into the second round of the US Open after defeating compatriot Aifa Azman on Sunday (Nov 1).

World No. 4 Sivasangari needed just 22 minutes to win 11-2, 11-4, 11-6 against world No. 21 Aifa at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia.

Fifth seed Sivasangari remains unbeaten against Aifa in eight meetings now. The pair recently met at the Silicon Valley Open second round, where Sivasangari got past Aifa in five sets en route to clinching the title last month.

Sivasangari will face Egypt’s Kenzy Ayman next. The Malaysian has won all four of her previous encounters against Ayman.

In the men’s category, Ng Eain Yow also advanced into the second round after he beat Spain’s Bernat Jaume 13-11, 11-4, 11-3 in 41 minutes.

World No. 17 Eain Yow will now face world No. 3 Peruvian Diego Elias in the second round.

However, Rachel Arnold’s campaign ended early in Philadelphia after she lost 6-11, 9-11, 6-11 to top seed Egyptian Amina Orfi.
