Smashing Sivasangari reaches Silicon Valley Open semis

PETALING JAYA: National squash ace S. Sivasangari secured her place in the semi-finals of the Silicon Valley Open, defeating compatriot Rachel Arnold in straight sets on Thursday (Oct 22).

The world No. 4 demonstrated dominant form at the Squash Zone in Redwood City, California, dispatching world No. 22 Rachel 11-7, 11-5, 11-6 in 24 minutes.

Sivasangari will now face India’s Anahat Singh in a rematch of last month’s Asian Games final.

World No. 15 Anahat advanced after a hard-fought 4-11, 11-8, 4-11, 11-2, 11-5 victory over sixth seed Salma Hany of Egypt.

Anahat enters the semi-final with momentum, having previously upset Egypt's first seed Nour El Sherbini in the second round.

However, Sivasangari maintains a psychological edge, holding a perfect 2-0 record against her on tour.
