PETALING JAYA: National squash player Ng Eain Yow will get some time off to reset and prepare himself for the Asian Games after his Professional Squash Association (PSA) season ended in the British Open third round.
Eain Yow bowed out of the Diamond-level tournament in Birmingham after he lost 5-11, 4-11, 5-11 to world No. 1 Mostafa Asal of Egypt on Tuesday.
World No. 19 Eain Yow will not be competing in the season-closing PSA Squash Tour Finals as he is outside the top eight, but will shift his focus to prepare for the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games from Sept 19-Oct 4.
"Looking ahead now. Time to build," he said briefly on social media.
The 28-year-old recently got a boost in his preparation after being included in the Road to Gold (RTG) programme last month, having previously been in the second-tier Fast Track programme.
National head coach Ajaz Azmat said Eain Yow would compete in the London Classic and Qatar Classic in September as part of his Asiad preparation.
"Eain Yow’s focus will be fully on the Asian Games now that his season has ended at the British Open," said Ajaz.
Eain Yow’s target in Japan is nothing short of defending his title as victory would earn him a ticket to squash’s debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Meanwhile, Mostafa had praise for Eain Yow, as there were moments where the Malaysian shone on court.
"Eain Yow is such a great friend and we sometimes hit together. He’s been playing good squash and can be dangerous.
"He has his own magic and can mix things up," said Mostafa.
