Ainaa and Co get it right this time by winning at Asian Doubles meet


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s squash players redeemed themselves at the Asian Doubles Championships by capturing the women’s doubles and mixed doubles titles in Sarawak.

After finishing as runners-up a year ago, Noor Ainaa Amani Ampandi-Yee Xin Ying and C. Ameeshen-Rachel Arnold rose to the occasion to clinch the titles in their respective categories in Kuching on Sunday.

Top seeds Ainaa-Xin Ying lived up to their billing when they packed off third seeds Cheng Nga Ching-Heylie Fung of Hong Kong 11-6, 11-9 in 23 minutes while Ameeshenraj-Rachel defeated compatriots Syafiq Kamal-Ainaa 6-11, 11-7, 11-9.

India's Abhay Singh-Velavan Senthilkumar clinched the men’s doubles title after they beat Pakistan’s Nasir Iqbal-Noor Zaman 7-11, 11-7, 11-2.

Meanwhile in Negri Sembilan, K. Sehveetraa clinched her first title of the year by defeating eighth seed Whitney Isabelle Wilson 11-7, 11-9, 11-0 at the President’s Trophy.

It was her fourth career title. 

In the men’s category, top seed Siow Yee Xian defeated fellow compatriot M. Nickhileswar 11-2, 11-2, 7-11, 11-7 to win his second title of the year.
