THE Perak government has set aside some RM117,000 to be allocated to 36 district-level sports associations in the state.
State youth, sports and human development committee chairman Howard Lee Chuan How (pic) said three associations from each district would receive the money for its activities.
“In conjunction with the upcoming National Sports Month in October, we want to encourage more sports events in all 12 districts in Perak.
“The one-off allocation is for them to hold their respective sporting programmes,” he told a press conference at the state secretariat building in Ipoh.
“We want to encourage Perakians to take up sports and to see more of these activities.” He added that each association could get about RM3,000.
Lee said the selection process for the allocation would be done with the Youth and Sports Department and Perak National Sports Council.
“All registered sport associations are welcome, including youths, senior citizens, the disabled and women sport associations.
“This is just one of our initiatives to see more sporting activities being held and we encourage more programmes to be held,” he added. — By ILI AQILAH
