PETALING JAYA: National doubles shuttler Teoh Mei Xing has called time on her badminton career at 29, bringing the curtain down on a senior journey spanning more than a decade.
Mei Xing announced her retirement on Saturday (Oct 17), confirming that she would not continue competing as an independent player.
Her final appearance came alongside Tan Zhi Yang in the mixed doubles first round at the Malaysian Super 100 in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, where they lost to South Korea’s Jin Sung-ik-Lee Seung-hee.
Mei Xing’s career was marked by frequent partner changes, having teamed up with at least 15 different women’s doubles partners, alongside several combinations in mixed doubles.
Her most successful partnership was with Anna Cheong, with whom she reached a career-high world ranking of No. 17 and won the Syed Modi International and Czech Open titles in 2021.
However, the partnership ended after Anna suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and later left the national team.
Mei Xing came close to replicating that success with Go Pei Kee, reaching world No. 18 and winning the 2024 Malaysian Super 100 title.
They split earlier this year after Pei Kee left the national setup, prompting Mei Xing to return to mixed doubles.
