PETALING JAYA: Second seeds Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah staged a fine comeback to reach the women’s doubles semi-finals at the Denmark Open.
The world No. 5 pair bounced back from a game down to beat India’s Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand 14-21, 21-17, 21-11 in a 55-minute quarter-final match on Friday (Oct 16).
It was their eighth win in 10 meetings against the Indian pair.
Pearly-Thinaah had also beaten Treesa-Gayatri in the quarter-finals of the Asian Games in Japan to secure a bronze medal.
The Malaysians had booked their place in the last eight after defeating Taiwan’s Yeung Nga-ting-Yeung Pui-lam 21-12, 21-19 on Thursday.
They will next face China’s Bao Lijing-Cao Zihan, who brushed aside Bulgarian Stoeva sisters Gabriela and Stefani 21-12, 26-24 in another last eight match.
They are the third Malaysia pair to confirm their spots in the semis at the Denmark Open after the earlier feat of Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik (men's doubles) and Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing (mixed doubles).
