Khai Xing-Hong Quan go down to S. Korean pair in semis at home meet

Bitter loss: Kang Khai Xing-Lok Hong Quan were the only Malaysian pair to reach the semi-finals, and their exit brings the hosts’ campaign to an end.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s last hopes at the Malaysian Super 100 ended on Saturday (Oct 17) as men’s doubles pair Kang Khai Xing-Lok Hong Quan fell to South Korea’s Jin Yong-Jo Song-hyun in the semi-finals.

The sixth seeds struggled to contain their fifth-seeded opponents, going down 21-15, 21-10 in 30 minutes in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

Play was briefly halted earlier due to a leaking roof on Court 1, which disrupted the women’s doubles semi-final match between South Korea’s Lee Seo-jin-Lee Yeon-woo and Thailand’s Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn-Sabrina Wedler.

Khai Xing-Hong Quan were the only Malaysian pair to reach the semi-finals, and their exit brings the hosts’ campaign to an end.

Jin Yong-Song-hyun will now face compatriots Na Sung-seng-Wang Chan in an all-South Korean men’s doubles final.

Sung-seng-Wang Chan booked their place with a 21-10, 21-17 win over Thailand’s Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn-Worrapol Thongsa-nga in 29 minutes.
