PETALING JAYA: Professional mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing made it a grand day for Malaysia by storming into the Denmark Open semi-finals in Odense.

The duo fought hard to beat world No. 18 Akira Koga-Natsu Saito of Japan 21-15, 24-22 in a 44-minute quarter-final match at the Jyske Bank Arena on Friday (Oct 16).

The world No. 51 pair are riding high on confidence after stunning world No. 5 Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran of Thailand in the second round a day earlier.

It is Pang Ron-Pei Jing's second semi-final appearance this year, following their first at the China Masters last month.

They will next face the winners of the quarter-final clash between top seeds Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping of China and Ye Hongwei-Nicole Gonzales Chan of Taiwan.

A tough semi-final awaits the Malaysians, but their impressive run in Odense should give them a welcome boost in the world rankings.
