PETALING JAYA: Men's doubles pair Aaron Tai-Yap Roy King were relieved to clear the first round of the Denmark Open on Wednesday (Oct 14) despite not getting the chance to test the court beforehand.
Fresh from winning the Arctic Open on Sunday (Oct 11), Aaron-Roy King admitted they struggled to adjust to conditions early in their match against South Korea's Kang Min-hyuk-Lee Jong-min.
The main problem was the drift at the SJF Bank Arena, with Aaron also making his first appearance at the tournament.
They gradually settled down as the match progressed and eventually came from a game down to win 13-21, 21-18, 21-19.
"Because we hadn't tested the court yet, both of us felt a little uncomfortable in the first game.
"Then in the second game, we slowly found our rhythm. Our opponents also played well.
"I think it was because of the drift but both of us managed ourselves well.
"It wasn't because we were tired, maybe we just didn't play well," said Roy King in a post-match interview with the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Aaron-Roy King will return to court on Thursday (Oct 15) for their second-round clash against senior pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.
