Aaron-Wooi Yik make winning start to reunion

PETALING JAYA: Former world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik made a positive start to their reunion by reaching the second round of the Denmark Open on Tuesday (Oct 13).

The Malaysians, however, were made to work hard before beating Japan’s world No. 8 Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi 21-19, 14-21, 21-11 in 51 minutes at the SJF Bank Arena in Odense.

The win was also only their fourth against Hoki-Kobayashi in 13 meetings.

Aaron-Wooi Yik will next face either their juniors Aaron Tai-Yap Roy King, who won the Arctic Open last week, or South Korea’s Kang Min-hyuk-Lee Jong-min.

Meanwhile, women’s singles shuttler K. Letshanaa was eliminated in the first round after losing 5-21, 8-21 to home player Line Christophersen.
