Roy King sheds five kilograms ahead of Malaysian Masters

PETALING JAYA: World No. 16 men’s doubles shuttler Yap Roy King will head into the Malaysian Masters, which begins next Tuesday, in leaner shape after shedding five kilograms.

The 25-year-old revealed he has reduced his weight from 78kg as part of his own effort to improve his movement on court.

Roy King said he decided to slim down after feeling that his previous weight was affecting his speed and mobility during matches.

“Training has been normal, but I did plan to lose some weight because I felt I was a bit too heavy before.

“No one asked me to do it. I personally felt my movement on court was slightly slow, so I wanted to reduce my weight and see whether it could help improve my game,” said Roy King when met at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara on Friday (May 15).

Roy King and partner Wan Arif Wan Junaidi will face Taiwan’s He Zhi-wei-Huang Jui-hsuan in the opening round.
