PETALING JAYA: World No. 6 men’s doubles shuttler Tee Kai Wun admitted it was disappointing that he and partner Man Wei Chong will miss the chance to defend their Malaysian Masters title next week after Wei Chong was forced to undergo right knee surgery.
The pair officially withdrew from the tournament on Monday (May 11), which was also the final withdrawal deadline for the Malaysian Masters.
They will also miss the Singapore Open from May 26-31 and the Indonesian Open from June 2-7.
Kai Wun said it was disappointing to miss competing in front of home fans, but added he had expected the possibility as Wei Chong had been struggling with the injury since February.
“No player wants to go through this kind of injury and there’s nothing much we can do because this is something every player fears.
“We already knew about his injury, so mentally I was a bit prepared for this situation.
“Of course we are disappointed because there are three back-to-back tournaments coming up. Last year, we did well during this period and even won a title.
“So not being able to play this time does make me feel a little sad,” said Kai Wun.
