PETALING JAYA: Missing the cut for the World Championships in August was hard for women’s singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei to take.

But the 26-year-old isn’t going to let that setback slow her down as she intends to bounce back strongly in her upcoming tournaments. starting with the Thailand Open tomorrow.

Coach Nova Armada said Jin Wei remains highly motivated and focused on performing well over the next few weeks.

“We knew ahead of time that she would not qualify for the world meet,” said Nova.

“But it has not hampered her motivation in any way and she’s ready to get going again. Her condition has been all right so far, and we have been preparing for her coming tournaments after Thailand as well.”

After Thailand this week, Jin Wei is set to compete on home soil at the Malaysian Masters from May 19-24.

She will then compete at the Australian Open in Sydney from June 9-14, and the Macau Open the following week. Luck was also on Jin Wei’s her side as she was promoted to the main draw of the tournaments in Thailand and Malaysia this month.

Sixteen players had withdrawn from the Thailand Open this week, and 11 had pulled out from the Malaysian Masters, giving way for Jin Wei to avoid the qualifying rounds.

Jin Wei is set to meet a qualifier in the opening round in Thailand, and progress to the second round could see her taking on fourth seed Pornpawee Chochuwong.
