Pearly looking likely for return to action in home Masters Masters

PETALING JAYA: National women’s doubles shuttler Pearly Tan is targeting a return to action at the Malaysian Masters from May 19-24 after the painful decision of having to miss the Uber Cup.

The 26-year-old may still be feeling the pinch of not competing in Horsens last week, but the pain from her muscle tear that kept her out of competing seems to be gone.

Pearly has also adopted a cautious approach to recover from the injury that had affected her three years ago.

“I suffered the same injury three years ago, so that’s why this time when it happened, I took it very seriously,” said Pearly when met at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) yesterday.

“It wasn’t just my decision but also from the doctors and my family as well.

‘‘Having suffered before, I wanted to be cautious.

“But the past three weeks I have been getting treatment for it, and now I’m pain-free after recovering.”

It was a change for Pearly having to cheer her teammates from home as a fan but she was proud to see the youngsters in the squad put up a strong fight in the Uber Cup.

“It was sad not being able to be with the team, but seeing the juniors fight was definitely interesting.

“I could see that they were motivated and had the fighting spirit,” she said.

Pearly added that the rise in the likes of Low Zi Yu-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan and Carmen Ting-Ong Xin Yee brings about healthy competition in the women’s doubles camp.

“We have good rising pairs, and it helps our women’s doubles team create strong competition among each other.

“It’s a challenge for everyone, but it’s good to push each other,” said Pearly.
