Carmen-Xin Yee suffer shock loss as Malaysia’s run in Macau Open ends

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia suffered a disappointing day at the Macau Open semi-finals after all remaining shuttlers bowed out yesterday.

The shock of the day at the Macau East Asian Games Dome came to second seed Carmen Ting-Ong Xin Yee, who were upset by China’s Bao Lijing-Cao Zihan and denied a spot in the final.

World No. 23 Carmen-Xin Yee lost 18-21, 13-21, to world No. 84 Lijing-Zihan in what was their first meeting on court.

Meanwhile, men’s singles shuttler Eogene Ewe had his stellar campaign at the tournament halted by China’s Hu Zhean.

World No. 80 Eogene put up a strong fight but went down 15-21, 18-21 to 48th-ranked Hu Zhean. The Chinese player has now won all three of their previous meetings.

Eogene had been on a commendable run, taking down second seed Jason Teh of Singapore 21-9, 21-19 in the quarter-finals to book a spot in the last four.

Newly formed independent mixed doubles duo Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing were no match for world No. 2 Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin of China as they went down 11-21, 22-24.

Men’s doubles pair Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong also fell to fourth-seed Indonesians Ali Faathir-Devin Artha.

It was their first meeting on court and the Indonesians won 21-12, 21-12 in a swift 33 minutes.

Chia Weijie-Teo Ee Yi also bowed out after they were beaten 21-4, 21-11 by South Africa’s Jin Yong-Lee Jong-min.
