PETALING JAYA: Men's singles shuttler Cheam June Wei continued his impressive run at the Korean Masters by claiming another seeded scalp, this time beating Taiwan's Su Li-yang on Friday (Aug 7).
June Wei produced another strong display in the quarter-finals at the Asan Yi Sun-sin Gymnasium, battling past seventh seed Li-yang 23-21, 10-21, 21-18 to book his place in the semi-finals.
"I never expected to make it this far, but I'm just enjoying every fighting moment on court.
"We had a lot of long and tough rallies today and I'm happy that I managed to win the match.
"I just focused on one point at a time, one by one," said June Wei.
The independent shuttler had earlier stunned world No. 29 Jason Teh in the opening round before overcoming China's world No. 49 Dong Tianyao in the second round.
Men's doubles pair Man Wei Chong-Soh Wooi Yik also marched into the semi-finals after making light work of India's Krishna Prasad Garaga-Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy 21-7, 21-8.
In an all-Malaysian quarter-final, Tee Kai Wun-Yap Roy King came out on top against Aaron Chia-Aaron Tai with a convincing 21-12, 21-15 victory.
There was no such joy in the mixed doubles, with all three Malaysian pairs bowing out in the quarter-finals.
Jimmy Wong-Cheng Su Yin were unable to get past South Korea's second seeds Kim Jae-hyeon-Jang Ha-jeong, going down 17-21, 18-21.
Loo Bing Kun-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan also saw their run come to an end after losing 14-21, 15-21 to China's third seeds Gao Jiaxuan-Wu Mengying.
Chen Tang Jie-Clarissa San suffered the same fate, falling 20-22, 17-21 to Japan's Haruki Kawabe-Kokona Ishikawa.
