PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's love affair with badminton was on full display as former national shuttlers Soniia Cheah and Daphne Ng celebrated World Badminton Day with sportswear brand Asics at the IOI Sports Centre in Putrajaya on Saturday.

The event brought together badminton enthusiasts of all ages for coaching clinics, friendly matches and interactive games, giving participants the opportunity to share the court with the two former national players.

Olympian Soniia, who represented Malaysia at the Tokyo 2020 Games, and Daphne, now a sports psychologist and coach, shared their knowledge and experiences with participants, offering insights into elite competition, coaching and athlete development.

Players also took part in activities designed to improve movement, balance, agility and court awareness while celebrating badminton's role in bringing communities together.

Asics Malaysia country manager Boon Tib said the celebration reflected the sport's unique ability to unite Malaysians.

"Badminton has long been a sport that brings Malaysians together, regardless of age, skill level or background," he said.

"Through our World Badminton Day celebration, we wanted to create an experience that not only showcased our latest innovations but also celebrated the camaraderie, energy and positive impact that sport can bring to our lives."
