BAM juniors smash expectations, sweep all four U-16 crowns


PETALING JAYA: Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) young shuttlers showed promise after they swept all four Under-16 titles at the Affin 100Plus Junior Elite Tour Finals yesterday.

Young shuttler Chong Lee Qian rose to the occasion to defeat national teammate Ng Hao Tong 18-21, 21-8, 21-11 in a 60-minute match of the boys’ singles final at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara.

It was Lee Qian first national title this year.

Meanwhile, Mirza Batrisyia Aghnia Nazri clinched the girls’ title after she defeated Chua Jing Xuan 21-12, 14-21, 21-16.

In the boys’ doubles, Teoh Chong Yee-Tze Han Wong took the crown after they beat Selangor’s Max Foo-Yong Kiat Song 21-7, 21-14 in 35 minutes while the girls’ champions were Leong Hwee Ling-Teo Min Yi.

Boys’ singles: Chong Lee Qian bt Ng Hao Tong 18-21, 21-8, 21-11.

Boys’ doubles: Teoh Chong Yee-Tze Han Wong bt Max Foo-Yong Kiat Song (Sel) 21-7, 21-14.

Girls’ singles: Mirza Batrisyia Aghnia Nazri bt Chua Jing Xuan 21-12, 14-21, 21-16.

Girls’ doubles: Leong Hwee Ling-Teo Min Yi bt Nur Iffah Husna Mohd Nasir-Safia Mohd Ishraf Nuha (Put) 21-13, 21-10.
