Fresh future with Felet

New addition: Chairman of Felet International Holdings Sdn Bhd, Datuk Teo Tong Wah, welcoming Teo Ee Yi to the team.

PETALING JAYA: Who will be Teo Ee Yi’s new partner?

A split between Ee Yi and his partner Ong Yew Sin is set to take place after only Ee Yi was signed by local sports brand Felet, without the presence of Yew Sin.

Ee Yi was previously with Chinese brand Li-Ning when he turned independent with Yew Sin in 2020.

This time, however, he has chosen to sign with Felet, a brand that also originates from his hometown of Muar, Johor.

This move also puts to rest speculation that he was set to retire, but raises question on who his new partner will be.

“I’ve chosen to continue chasing my dreams and want to enjoy the challenges on court,” said the 32-year-old Ee Yi.

“This is merely a change of sponsor and does not affect my career progress or plans.”

According to reliable sources, Ee Yi could be paired with Chia Weijie.

Weijie is currently training with the independent squad in Sri Petaling and has been partnering Lwi Sheng Hao.

The pair finished runners-up at both the Malaysian Super 100 and the Syed Modi International last year.

However, other players in the independent set-up remain potential partners for Ee Yi, as partnerships often change, with players switching partners on several occasions.

Among other names who could potentially partner Ee Yi in the independent squad are Jimmy Wong, Low Hang Yee and Ng Eng Cheong.

Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub, Tan Wee Kiong and Goh V Shem are also possibilities, as three of them are part of Felet’s sponsored athletes.

Ee Yi-Yew Sin have been together for more than a decade since 2015, but have struggled with form since last year, often exiting tournaments early.

Moreover, Ee Yi has been struggling with a series of injuries.

Their best achievements include winning a bronze medal at the World Championships in Huelva in 2021 and finishing runners-up at the Asian Championships in 2023.
