PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is guaranteed at least one men’s doubles pair in the Singapore Open quarter-finals.
This follows a second-round match-up between Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King on Thursday (May 28).
Eighth seeds Sze Fei-Izzuddin booked their spot after defeating Taiwan’s Chen Cheng-kuan-Liu Kuang-heng 21-18, 10-21, 21-19.
The match at the Singapore Indoor Stadium lasted 51 minutes on Wednesday (May 27).
World No. 17 Arif-Roy King entered the second round by defeating Japanese pair Takumi Nomura-Yuichi Shimogami 21-12, 21-19.
The Japanese pair is currently ranked world No. 33.
The upcoming clash is a repeat of last year’s meeting at the same tournament.
Sze Fei-Izzuddin won that encounter in straight games to reach the quarter-finals.
They also finished as runners-up at last week’s Malaysian Masters.
They have won all three of their previous meetings against compatriots Arif-Roy King.
Meanwhile, Chia Weijie-Teo Ee Yi saw their campaign end in the opening round.
They lost 18-21, 19-21 to fifth-seeded Chinese pair Liang Weikeng-Wang Chang.
