PETALING JAYA: Women’s singles shuttler K. Letshanaa put up a strong fight in the opening round of the Singapore Open before going down to world No. 4 Chen Yufei of China.
The match took place on Wednesday (May 27).
World No. 30 Letshanaa, competing in her debut Super 750 tournament, gave fourth seed Yufei a scare by taking the first game.
However, the Chinese player kept her composure to come back from behind and win 19-21, 21-15, 21-17 in 66 minutes at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
It was Yufei’s second win over the rising Malaysian player.
The result was a contrast compared to her first win at the Sudirman Cup Finals last year.
In that meeting, she only took 32 minutes to win in straight games.
Letshanaa, 22, had an impressive run last week at the Malaysian Masters.
She defeated world No. 9 Tomoka Miyazaki in the second round before her run ended in the quarter-finals.
