PETALING JAYA: Aaron Chia may have to wait a little longer before reuniting with Soh Wooi Yik, but he is already looking forward to turning his attention back to their main target – the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Aaron, who is currently preparing for the Asian Games, said he has no concerns about pairing up with Wooi Yik again after they spent the past three months playing with different partners.
He also knows the expectations that come with the reunion after the coaching team agreed to pair them together again, with Olympic gold remaining their ultimate target.
“I think BAM (Badminton Association of Malaysia) have made it clear that once the Asian Games are over, we will return to our original partnerships.
‘‘We will just follow the coaches’ plan and focus on what we need to do,” said Aaron.
“There will always be KPIs for us because we are among the most senior players in BAM. We also set our own targets because once Olympic qualification begins next year, we will give everything we have.
“For me, there is no problem partnering Wooi Yik again because we have been together for a long time.
“Hopefully, after the Asian Games, we can return to our respective partnerships and focus on what lies ahead.”
Men’s doubles head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi had earlier reshuffled the partnerships as part of his search for the best combinations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Wooi Yik was initially paired with Man Wei Chong, while Aaron teamed up with Aaron Tai.
Once the Asian Games are over, Aaron and Wooi Yik will resume training together before heading to Europe for the Denmark Open, French Open and Hylo Open.
