FINAL RESULTS

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin ended his long wait for a win on the BWF World Tour after he clinched the men’s singles title at the Vietnam Open yesterday.

World No. 91 Aidil won his first title of the year after stunning world No. 33 and top seed Jason Teh of Singapore to win 21-16, 21-14 at the Nguyen Du Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.

The independent shuttler ended his 18-month wait for a title after he last won the Sri Lanka International Challenge in March last year.

The 26-year-old Aidil has now won both matches against Jason after beating him at the Malaysia Super 100 three years ago.

The victory fetched Aidil US$8,250 (RM33,580), while Jason settled for US$4,180 (RM17,015).

For the Singaporean shuttler, the runner-up finish in Vietnam comes as his second-best finish this year after winning the Polish Open in March.

Singapore got another second-place finish in the men’s doubles category as Terry Hee-Howin Wong lost 14-21, 12-21 to top seed Taiwanese duo Chen Zhi-ray-Lin Yu-chieh.
