Ee Yi-Wei Jie off to flying start in Thai Open

PETALING JAYA: Teo Ee Yi got off to a positive start in the Thailand Open with his new men's doubles partner Chia Wei Jie after pulling off an upset over eighth seeds Rian Ardianto-Rahmat Hidayat in the opening round on Tuesday (May 12).

The match at Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok marked the first tournament for Ee Yi-Wei Jie, who only paired up a month ago.

Ee Yi previously partnered Ong Yew Sin for 11 years, while Wei Jie was formerly paired with Lwi Sheng Hao.

Despite their short time together, they did well to beat the Indonesian pair 20-22, 21-19, 21-11 in 55 minutes.

Ee Yi-Wei Jie will face either Scotland's Christopher Grimley-Matthew Grimley or Vietnam's Nguyen Dinh Hoang-Tranh Dinh Manh in the second round.
