Badminton: Herry confirms Wooi Yik's injury after walkover in French Open quarter-finals

PETALING JAYA: Former world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik suffered a major setback at the French Open after being forced to retire early from their quarter-final match on Friday (Oct 23).

The world No. 4 Malaysian pair were trailing 0-5 against compatriots Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun at the Arena Grand Paris when they withdrew from the competition.

Men’s doubles head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi confirmed that Wooi Yik sustained an injury during their opening-round match against the Chinese pair of He Jiting-Ren Xiangyu.

“Wooi Yik injured his right leg in the first round.

"They had to withdraw to avoid aggravating it,” said Herry.

This marked only the second tournament for Aaron-Wooi Yik since reuniting, following their impressive runner-up finish at the Denmark Open last week.
