PETALING JAYA: It was double joy for Malaysia as shuttlers Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani checked into the French Open men's doubles semi-finals in contrasting styles.
World No. 11 Wei Chong-Kai Wun spent just five minutes on court, leading 5-0, before world No. 4 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik conceded a walkover in their quarter-final match at the Grand Arena Paris on Friday (Oct 23).
Aaron-Wooi Yik had reached the Denmark Open final last week, while Wei Chong-Kai Wun had lost in the opening round. The latter therefore appeared fresher as they continued their campaign in France this week.
Wei Chong-Kai Wun will face Indonesia's Raymond Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin for a place in the final and will be seeking revenge after losing to them in their only previous meeting at last year's Australian Open.
In another quarter-final, Sze Fei-Izzuddin stunned world No. 1 Kim Won-ho-Seo Seung-jae of South Korea 21-15, 21-18 to book their place in the semi-finals.
They will next face Indonesia's Leo Rolly-Daniel Marthin.
Sze Fei-Izzuddin have met the Indonesian pair only once before, at the 2022 Swiss Open, where they won in three games.
