PETALING JAYA: National women’s doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah are just one win away from claiming their second title in two weeks after storming into the French Open final on Saturday (Oct 24).
However, it was far from smooth sailing for the Malaysian world No. 4 pair, who had to claw their way back from 3-12 down in the second game to beat Japan’s world No. 5 Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi 21-17, 22-20 in a thrilling 47-minute semi-final at the Arena Grand Paris.
Many pairs would have crumbled under such pressure, but Pearly-Thinaah refused to give in, producing a remarkable comeback to underline their determination to finish strongly in France.
The duo, who captured the Denmark Open title last week, will face either Japan’s top seeds Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsutomo or Indonesia’s Rachel Allessya-Febi Setianingrum in Sunday’s final.
Pearly-Thinaah are also seeking to reclaim the French Open crown they last won in 2022.
