PETALING JAYA: Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah started strongly but failed to finish on a high as their hopes of capturing a second French Open title ended on Sunday (Oct 25).

The world No. 5 pair went down 21-10, 17-21, 16-21 to top seeds and defending champions Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsutomo of Japan in the women's doubles final that lasted for 61 minutes at the Grand Arena Paris.

It was their sixth defeat in 11 meetings against the Japanese pair, who were ruthless in attack.

Pearly-Thinaah had won the title in 2022 but could not reproduce the form that carried them to the Denmark Open crown last week.

Nevertheless, it has been a remarkable two weeks for the Malaysians, who reached back-to-back World Tour Super 700 finals, a feat that they can be proud of.
