Tien Ci–Chiew Sien hope to go far after steady Syed Modi surge

PETALING JAYA: Professional mixed doubles pair Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien will have the chance to prove themselves in the Syed Modi India International after struggling with inconsistency.

Tien Ci-Chiew Sien breezed past home pair Farogh Aman-Rutaparna Panda 21-19, 21-13 to reach the quarter-finals.

It is their second last eight appearance at this level this year following the Korean Masters in September.

To reach the semi-finals again after 13 months, Tien Ci-Chiew Sien will need to be wary of their opponents, Indonesia’s Dejan Ferdinansyah-Bernandine Wardana.

Dejan, who previously formed a strong partnership with Gloria Widjaja, is back in form with Bernandine, claiming the Al Ain Masters title in October and finishing as runners-up at the Malaysia Super 100 in Johor Baru.

Also in action in the quarter-finals today are the young pair of Wee Yee Hern-Vanee Gobi, who will face seventh seeds Pakkapon Teeraratsakul-Sapsiree Taerattanachai.

The Malaysian duo advanced to the quarter-finals without needing to step onto the court after receiving a walkover from the top seeds, Terry Hee-Jin Yu Jia of Singapore, in the second round yesterday.
