Jimmy-Su Yin, Sze Fei-Izzuddin power into semis


PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles pair Jimmy Wong-Cheng Su Yin continued their giant-killing run at the Japan Open by claiming another big scalp, this time upsetting world No. 3 Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Boje.

Playing in the quarter-finals at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Friday (July 17), Jimmy-Su Yin produced another composed display to beat the Danish pair 21-17, 21-17 in just 39 minutes.

They will face Hong Kong's Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet in Saturday's (July 18) semi-finals.

Men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani also booked their place in the last four after overcoming Americans Chen Zhi Yi-Presley Smith 21-19, 15-21, 21-13.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin, last year's runners-up, will next face defending champions Kim Won-ho-Seo Seung-jae of South Korea.

The world No. 1 pair ended the impressive run of Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing with a 21-13, 21-10 victory in 33 minutes.
