Aaron-Khai Xing storm into Japan Open quarters

PETALING JAYA: Men's doubles pair Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing booked their place in the Japan Open quarter-finals after beating Taiwan's Lee Jhe-huei-Yang Po-hsuan in straight games on Thursday (July 16).

Playing at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Aaron-Khai Xing needed just 26 minutes to wrap up a comfortable 21-10, 21-15 victory.

They will face a much tougher challenge in the quarter-finals against either world No. 1 South Koreans Kim Won-ho-Seo Seung-jae or Japan's Kakeru Kumagai-Hiroki Nishi.

Aaron-Khai Xing were not the only Malaysians to advance, with last year's runners-up Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani also booking their place in the quarter-finals after beating Denmark's Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 21-18, 21-19.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin will face either Denmark's Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard or the United States' Chen Zhi Yi-Presley Smith for a place in the semi-finals.
