Jimmy-Su Yin march into Japan Open quarter-finals

PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles pair Jimmy Wong-Cheng Su Yin continued their impressive run at the Japan Open by knocking out sixth seeds Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue of France in the second round on Thursday (July 16).

Jimmy-Su Yin needed just 53 minutes to beat the world No. 7 pair 23-21, 24-22.

It was their second top-class scalp of the tournament after upsetting world No. 14 Yuichi Shimogami-Sayaka Hobara of Japan in the opening round.

The Malaysians will face either South Korea's Kim Jae-hyeon-Jang Ha-jeong or Denmark's Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Boje for a place in the semi-finals.

However, it was the end of the road for husband-and-wife pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie, who went down 14-21, 7-21 to China's second seeds Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin.

Men's singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao also bowed out after losing 16-21, 21-11, 21-17 to France's Christo Popov.
