Pearly-Thinaah reach Japan Masters quarters in style

PETALING JAYA: Women's doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah continued their fine form this year by reaching the Japan Masters quarter-finals.

The World Championships silver medallists swept aside South Korea's Jeong Na-eun-Lee Yeon-woo 21-14, 21-9 in just 32 minutes at the Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium on Thursday (Nov 13).

World No. 2 Pearly-Thinaah, who are the top seeds in the tournament, would face the winners of the match between Taiwan's seventh seeds Hsu Yin-hui-Lin Jhih-yun and unseeded homesters Nanako Hara-Riko Kiyose.

Malaysia's challenge in the mixed doubles though, came to an end after Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin and Jimmy Wong-Lai Pei Jing both went down.

World No. 20 Pang Ron-Su Yin fought hard before losing 21-14, 12-21, 17-21 to Thailand's world No. 3 Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran.

World No. 29 Jimmy-Pei Jing fell 17-21, 14-21 to Taiwan's world No. 17 Ye Hong-wei-Nicole Chan.

In the women's singles, K. Letshanaa also could not get past Taiwan's Chiu Pin-chian, losing narrowly 22-24, 18-21.
