Mental recovery crucial for Pearly’s return to action

PETALING JAYA: Overcoming the mental trauma will be the biggest hurdle as doubles shuttler Pearly Tan waits for the green light to return for competitions.

Pearly, who is recovering from a back injury, has not played in any tournaments with M. Thinaah since the Asian Championships in China last month. Head coach Rosman Razak said Pearly had been active on court during training, but cautioned that the psychological barrier still needs to be managed.

“There are small aspects that we are still being patient with. It’s nothing major but wanting to protect her.

“After injuries, the toughest thing to overcome is the mental trauma. She needs to adjust and get her rhythm again. We need to work on removing that trauma and fear,” he said.

Pearly’s injury had forced her to miss the Uber Cup Finals in Horsens, Denmark last month, the Thailand Open last week and the ongoing Malaysian Masters.

The 26-year-old Pearly, however, has been in good spirits and had recently shared on social media that she is pain-free, but just needed a little more time to get herself ready to be back in action.

“I know many of you have been concerned about my injury. I just want to let you know all that I’m recovering well, and I’m no longer in pain.

“I just need a little more time to prepare myself, and don’t worry too much about me, everything is good now!” she said.
