Aaron-Wooi Yik let pressure get the better of them, says Herry

PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi admitted that his charges, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, were too eager to win and that pressure ultimately contributed to their defeat in the Malaysian Masters semi-finals on Saturday (May 23).

Aaron and Wooi Yik, who were runners-up in last year’s edition, lost 18-21, 12-21 to fellow Malaysians Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani in 33 minutes.

Aaron also appeared frustrated during the match, throwing his racquet after losing a point in the first game.

Herry praised Sze Fei and Izzuddin for staying composed and sticking to their game plan throughout the match.

“It’s a pity that Aaron and Wooi Yik did not make the final. But I thought Sze Fei and Izzuddin played very well and were very tidy.

“I saw Aaron and Wooi Yik were a little nervous or perhaps too eager to win. On the other hand, Sze Fei and Izzuddin played without pressure, enjoyed the game more, and that was clearly visible on court,” said Herry.
