Aaron-Wooi Yik fail to make it an all-Malaysian semi-final at Hylo Open

PETALING JAYA: The hope of an all-Malaysian men’s doubles semi-final at the Hylo Open in Germany was dashed after Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik fell to Indonesia’s Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani in the quarter-finals on Friday (31 Nov).

The top seeds and world No. 2 pair went down 21-11, 14-21, 17-21 at the Saarlandhalle Indoor Arena in Saarbrucken.

Aaron-Wooi Yik started strongly by taking the opening game but could not maintain their momentum as the Indonesians raised their intensity to dominate the next two.

Their exit ended Malaysia’s hopes of an all-Malaysian semi-final after Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun had earlier marched into the last four with a hard-fought 26-24, 21-19 victory over another Indonesian pair, Fajar Alfian-Shohibul Fikri.
