Justin Hoh moves on to Australian Open quarter-finals


PETALING JAYA: Men’s singles shuttler Justin Hoh booked his spot in the Australian Open quarter-finals after taking down Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen in the second round on Thursday (June 11).

World No. 47 Justin stunned world No. 24 Nguyen 21-17, 21-19 in 55 minutes to enter the last eight at the Quaycentre in Sydney.

The 22-year-old Justin will face world No. 35 Indonesian Moh Zaki Ubaidillah in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s three mixed doubles pairs saw their run end in Australia.

Jimmy Wong-Cheng Su Yin fell to third seed Thai duo Ruttanapak Oupthong-Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat after a closely-fought battle as they lost 21-15, 15-21, 22-20.

Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing lost 12-21, 8-21 to Hong Kong’s Chan Yin Chak-Ng Tsz Yau, while Loo Bing Kun-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan fell 9-21, 8-21 to top seed Chinese pair Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping.
