Injury blow rules Wei Chong-Kai Wun out of Arctic and Denmark Opens

PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles shuttlers Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun have pulled out of the upcoming Arctic Open and Denmark Open after the latter suffered a calf injury.

Men’s doubles head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi confirmed that Kai Wun has torn a muscle in his right calf and needs at least two weeks to recover.

"Kai Wun... cannot play in the Arctic and Denmark Opens with Wei Chong.

"The doctor has said that he needs at least two weeks to recover.

"We are monitoring his condition and hope he can return in time for the French Open," Herry said on Sunday (Oct 5).

The Arctic Open starts on Tuesday (Oct 7) in Vantaa, Finland, while the Denmark Open will be a week later, from Oct 14-19 in Odense.

The French Open begins on Oct 21.

The injury comes as a blow to world No. 8 Wei Chong-Kai Wun, who were hoping to regain their best form in Europe after suffering back-to-back early round exits in the Hong Kong Open and China Masters last month.
